blame overseas.

China may be implicated in the two power blackouts which affected huge swathes
of northern India last month which brought chaos and major embarrassment to
the emerging Asian country, says the India-based online portal One India.

At the end of last moth, two the worst power outages in more than a decade
struck northern India, leaving more than 600 million people without power and
exposing the country’s outdated facilities. The government at first blamed the
collapse on some states which drew more than their share of electricity from
the overburdened grid, while others said outdated transmission lines were to
blame.

A different explanation is now emerging. A report released by the country’s
intelligence agencies said a particular extractor tool used in power generation
that was imported from China is suspicious and two companies involved with
importing the tool are under investigation.

The report also validated earlier rumors that China is gearing up for a cyber
attack against India with the help of computer hardware and mechanical parts
to collect intelligence, saying China will be an expert in such stealth attacks
by 2017, according to One India.

The agencies raised suspicions that China had a part to play in the recent
blackouts, fretting that a scheme to prompt an electricity crisis could stall
the country’s growth plan and put the economy of one of China’s major
competitors on the back foot.
